Dental Hygiene

The goal of prophylaxis is the long-term maintenance of healthy teeth and the longevity of crowns, bridges, and implants.

For whom?

Prophylaxis is divided into prevention-oriented dental cleaning (PRZ) for orally healthy patients and periodontal maintenance therapy (PET) for patients with diseased gums or corresponding predisposition. Meaningful prophylaxis is always accompanied by regular dental visits and must be practiced throughout the entire lifespan.

Process

Prevention-oriented dental cleaning (PRZ) includes removal of tartar and stains with the AIR-FLOW device, polishing of tooth surfaces, and fluoride application. Periodontal maintenance therapy (PET) includes regular tartar removal also under the gums and removal of disease-causing bacteria (biofilms) by the prophylaxis assistant. AIR-FLOW is the most effective and gentlest regular dental cleaning. With a mixture of air and sodium bicarbonate and a water jet, it removes deposits and stains - even in places that conventional dental instruments cannot reach. Upon request, we can fluoridate the cleaned tooth surfaces, either with a tray with fluoride gel or with a fluoride varnish.

Duration & Notes

Scientific studies have shown that professional dental cleaning every six months in combination with systematic home dental care is sufficient to keep teeth healthy. Regular Air-Flow treatment can reduce harmful bacteria by over 50 percent (compared to ten to 20 percent through home dental cleaning). Periodontitis is not curable but can be controlled and brought to a standstill through PET.

Costs

Professional dental cleaning is a private service. Costs vary depending on the effort required. Periodontal maintenance therapy (PET) is covered by statutory health insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have professional dental cleaning?

We recommend semi-annual professional dental cleaning every six months in combination with systematic home dental care.

Is the AIR-FLOW treatment painful?

No, cleaning with AIR-FLOW does not hurt. In the end, the teeth are smooth and fresh and feel that way too.

What is the difference between PRZ and PET?

PRZ (prevention-oriented dental cleaning) is for orally healthy patients. PET (periodontal maintenance therapy) is for patients with diseased gums or corresponding predisposition to prevent further destruction of the periodontium.
